Responsive web design or adaptive web design?

We've recently written a couple of articles (here and here) with examples of responsive web design. Since then discussions have emerged, both internally and with clients, on the difference between responsive web design and adpatve web design.

Now, we are not a web design or technology company, so it's not for us to define the difference between these two techniques. However, there's nothing wrong with sharing some good content that helps explain the difference. Brad Frost has a good stab at it in this slideshare. We only wish we were at the presentation!
